Morrisons closures before 2025 ends here is the full picture on stores, cafes and pharmacies, and why your local might be at risk

The retailer has named stores and services set to shut this year.

With the festive rush looming and household budgets still tight, shoppers are facing a new wave of changes at the UK’s fourth-largest grocer. Morrisons has confirmed site closures and service withdrawals that affect communities across England, Scotland and Wales, reshaping how many of us shop, eat in store and pick up prescriptions.

In total, the chain says 145 locations are impacted in 2025, including 17 Daily Stores and 52 in-store cafes, with more Market Street services earmarked. Most convenience sites have already shut, while a further set of Market Kitchens, pharmacies and florists are due to close with dates to be confirmed. The detail matters.

Morrisons closures in 2025 and where it hits hardest

The supermarket has closed 17 Morrisons Daily convenience shops in a single spring sweep, from Gorleston in Norfolk to Wokingham in Berkshire and Exeter in Devon. One more followed in mid May in Haxby, North Yorkshire, completing the convenience list for the year. These sites supported local neighbourhoods on quick top-up trips and last-minute bread and milk, so the change will be felt on the school run and the commute.

The most visible change for many shoppers will be in the cafés. Morrisons has identified 52 cafés for closure, spreading from London and the South East to the North West and central Scotland. The list includes London Stratford and Wood Green, Leeds Horsforth and Swinnow Road, High Wycombe, Watford, Paisley and Wishaw. Dates remain to be confirmed, which means regulars still have time to plan their routines.

In March, chief executive Rami Baitiéh set out the thinking. He said « In most locations, the Morrisons Café has a bright future, but a minority have specific local challenges and in those locations, regrettably, closure and re-allocation of the space is the only sensible option. Market Street is a beacon of differentiation for Morrisons and we remain committed to it. But as we modernise we are making some necessary changes to the areas of the model which are simply uneconomic. In some stores where we are closing counters or Cafés, we plan to work with third parties to provide a relevant specialist offer. Although these changes are relatively small in the context of the overall scale of the Morrisons business, we do not take lightly the disruption and uncertainty they will cause to some of our colleagues. We will of course take particular care to look after all of them well through the coming changes. »

Cafes, Market Kitchens and pharmacies named for closure

Beyond cafés, a further 18 Market Kitchens are listed for closure, including Camden Town and Canning Town in London, Aberdeen King Street, Leeds Kirkstall, Nottingham Netherfield, Milton Keynes Westcroft and Stoke Festival Park. These counters offered freshly prepared hot food, so their departure changes the lunch and dinner options many city-centre and commuter customers rely on after work.

Four pharmacies are on the 2025 list too, including Birmingham Small Heath, Blackburn Railway Road, Bradford Victoria and London Wood Green. For families collecting repeat prescriptions, that is a practical shift, especially as cold season bites. And yes, the florist offer is tightening as well, with 13 floristry departments set to close, from Sheffield Meadowhead and St Albans Hatfield Road to Sunderland Doxford Park and Swinton. It is a broad reset.

What happens to the space will vary by site. The company signalled plans to work with specialists for some locations, which could mean new names arriving where counters or cafés step back. Shoppers will want clarity fast, and store teams are fielding plenty of questions on the shop floor already. The retailer has began implementing these changes through the autumn.

Shoppers heading into Christmas should check signage in store or ask at the customer service desk for the latest date information, since most café, Market Kitchen, pharmacy and florist closures are listed with dates to be confirmed. And if a third-party brand moves in, the offer on your local high street could look quite different by New Year.
